What is Accessible Tourism?
What do we mean by Accessible Tourism? Some think of it as their customers being able to reach them easily: “We are just off the highway” or “We are close to the local station and three minutes from the beach”.
Whilst those are good marketing points that is not what is meant in this training course. So, as with any new subject, it is good to start with a clear definition. However, there is no single, universally accepted definition of “accessible tourism”. After studying various ideas and terms around this theme, we take this as our working definition:
“Accessible Tourism is about the process of making all tourism offers suitable and easy to use for people with disabilities and for the wider range of customers who need – and benefit from – accessible surroundings, facilities, services and information.”
All the four training modules relate to this definition.
